bitcoin-made-easy.com

Bitcoin made easy is a cryptocurrency website allowing visitors to learn more about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The current solution was in need of some love. It looked quite flat and old fashioned. The L&F needed some restyling. Our design agency revolved around creating a rewarding user experience.

We started to work upon this project with a clear goal in our minds. We needed to design a website that was not just nice, clean and tidy but also allowed to reduce the user’s cognitive load during the process of choosing the right exchange. This task was particularly hard to achieve because we had this long list of exchanges and we needed to place all of them on the website.

The section above the fold has been designed to meet user expectations
Users want to understand what bitcoin is
The time taken to make a decision increases as the number of choices is expanded
Video were used to help users to understand how to use the site

The problem to solve

In the cryptocurrency industry, there are literally hundreds of exchanges. Each of those exchanges has its own characteristic. One gives more privacy while the other one is easier to use. When a user faces the challenge of choosing among them the process could be quite frustrating and demotivating. Thus, we needed to think about how users would like to browse among them in an easy, comfortable way.

Strategy

We didn’t have the opportunity to talk to real users during the first design phase. So we needed to focus on tangible data to make sure that our decisions were based on real information and not just our assumptions. Through a comprehensive UX research, we started gathering all the possible info about bitcoin users. We read, read and read more and more about the topic to make sure we were on the right path. As a result, we gave life to 4 main personas that would help us to get oriented in the cryptocurrency galaxy.

Interactive questionnaire

The company CEO asked us to think of a way to help visitors to browse among available exchanges and choose one of them. The first thought that came to mind was to add determined filter criteria in the exchanges table in order to narrow down the list of exchanges. But after an online discovery session, we decided to try out a different option. Users would answer questions allowing the system to understand what are the best exchanges for user’s needs.

The time taken to make a decision increases as the number of choices is expanded

It is just like having a friendly chat with a friend. This imaginary friend has a comprehensive, deep knowledge of all the existing cryptocurrency exchanges. By telling him what are the most important criteria, users would get a list of exchanges tailored for their needs. In order to help the user to make his decision even faster, we significantly limited the number of exchanges among which to choose. In fact, Hick’s law states “The time taken to make a decision increases as the number of choices is expanded”. This is just one important design law that helped us out throughout this design phase.

To give you a better idea of the work we did, you can find below the whole research for the project. We started from an audit of the current solution. We talked to the stakeholders to understand their needs and final goal. We looked for specific information through reliable, available source for our scope. We developed and shared user personas with our stakeholders and client.

Final result

The final version of the website was released in January 2020. The stakeholder and the entire BME team have been very happy with the overall job done and with the results achieved. In the first two months, the analytics has shown that visitors spend more time on the website, they visit multiple website sections and the conversion rate has increased significantly, meaning that the ROI of working with Fourmeta was definitely positive.
